Images of Old Tucson: Western Feature Filmmaking in the Desert ReviewThis is the first book I've read about the Old Tucson Studio and coming in at just under 180 pages it was a great introduction. "Images of Old Tucson" covers many of the classic western features filmed at the location from "Arizona" - for which the the first 40 or so buildings were constructed - all the way to "Three Amigos!"(1986) and beyond to when, sadly, in the nineties much of the famous western location was destroyed by fire. The book also covers many of the enigmatic figures who graced the dusty streets like Randolph Scott, Audie Murphy, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, a young Harrison Ford and of course The Duke himself. In the late 50s a man named Robert Shelton began turning the ghost town into a western themed amusement park complete with stunt shows, carriage rides, and even a narrow gauge railway around the perimeter. Shelton was able to have Old Tucson maintain a healthy balance between tourist trap and film location. In fact a big reason for tourists to visit the attraction was the small chance one might catch a glimpse of a famous movie star. Then the seventies came with a grittier, less romantic view of the west. The book goes into less detail if any about films (and television shows) shot there in the 80s and 90s but who cares about those anyway? "Images of Old Tucson" focuses on the golden age of the american western and I highly recommend this heavily illustrated and well researched book.Images of Old Tucson: Western Feature Filmmaking in the Desert OverviewWant to learn more information about Images of Old Tucson: Western Feature Filmmaking in the Desert?
